Day 11: Beatrix Potter Hill Top House & Intro to Liverpool with a new friend!
Although Beatrix Potter's Hilltop House was just across Lake Windermere (and up a hill from Hawkshead) from where I was staying, the ferry was out of “service” which meant I had to either take a few busses or a taxi ALL the way around the Lake. I started off on one bus and tried to transfer to the next bus only to find out the next one was 3 hours later, which is NOT what I was told. BAMBOOZLED again. I gave in and called a taxi which was very expensive BUT of course I was on a time crunch because I had a train to catch to Liverpool that afternoon. Plus I was DETERMINED to see and tour HillTop House because I have such fond memories of my Mama reading to me about Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter Rabbit…and I wanted to see where and what inspired Beatrix Potter's imaginative characters. Plus the taxi driver offered to wait for me while I did my thang and then take me back to the hotel to get my luggage and then on to the train station in Oxenholme in time to make it… all for one negotiated sum. The peace of mind was worth every penny.
B.P.’s place was how I imagined and maybe if I lived in the Lake District, It would have been easier to keep up with my children’s stories that were also intertwined with nature. But that’s an excuse and I need to start agan, period.
Thanks to my homeboy Johnny Garcia, Aka: JJ Goossens, (my Rox's brother) for connecting me with a friend of his, Julia Good in Liverpool. She showed me around town and some iconic Beatles spots. We connected over some shared dark and fiery times, how we coped and eventually how we rose from the ashes. I think we’ll be forever friends! She admires my bravery and resiliency, even though I don’t see myself so brave and resilient most of the time!
Sorry, this is a bit late. I’ve been really tired by the time the days done.
